"The harder you work, the luckier you get" - Gary Player

When I was getting my BFA at VCUarts I was told how expecting to live off of your artwork is unrealistic. I was told I was "too emotional" to be a painter and I should consider a different profession. One professor literally laughed at me when I said that I did not plan to attend graduate school, "what do you expect to do next then?!" she sneered sarcastically.

I graduated one semester early with my degree in Painting and Printmaking and I did not attend graduate school. Less than one year after receiving my diploma, I left my many part time jobs to pursue my art full time. I frequently think back to those moments when I was told how unrealistic my dreams were. Each day I take pleasure in using what some may consider excessive emotion to connect with an audience of art lovers who appreciate my work and the honesty that I share alongside it. While I am no Rockefeller, I more than doubled my income from 2015 to 2016 and 2017 is projected to be my biggest year yet.

I am here to tell you that you can be anything when you have the patience to put in the hard work it takes to get there. You've got this!
