At this point, you probably think I never stop changing the color of the walls in Ben and my home. I'll admit that you're pretty much right. With our bedroom and the original office (now family room) as an exception, many of the rooms in the house have changed colors multiple times. I think the room that has had the most "makeover" posts however, hast to be: The Studio.
What started as a hoarder's paradise, morphed into the space that I try out new mural ideas and where I create my massive backdrops.
One of the first murals I ever painted is in the studio!
I went through a very short lived phase of making it appear organized and put together. The problem was that it wasn't actually organized - I had just stuffed my materials and paintings into closets and storage cabinets.
I switched out the furniture often, either painting it, selling it, or donating it to make room for something else that wouldn't last long.
I probably shouldn't even call this my studio, though, since for the last few months I've spent hardly any time doing studio-esque things in it. Most of my time is spent creating in the family room or my office downstairs and the studio has gone back into storage mode:
But not for long!! Here's a tiny spot that actually looks presentable:
I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record - but the Marie Kondo method of tidying up has truly changed the way I clean, organize, and even shop for our home. I'm only holding on to the things that bring me joy and the rest gets donated, sold, or trashed.
Exercising this method in the studio has been the hardest room of all because there are just years and years of artwork, sentimental items, and miscellaneous things that I have trouble getting rid of. But it's slowly emptying out.
With each corner of crap that I empty out, I reward myself by painting that wall with the prettiest shade of green by Behr - "Husky Grey". It's green with just the right amount of grey so it doesn't have that florescent-like tint of mint. After going through lots of sample colors, I think this one is a winner!
By only purchasing things that truly make me happy, rather than just fill a space, I think this will be a makeover that sticks. But I'll keep my fingers crossed just in case :)
