I love the color peach. I love to eat peaches. I love to wear peach dresses. But after months of living in a peach bedroom, I've realized my love for the color doesn't translate well on walls. Maybe it was just the shade of peach I chose, but something about the way it turned out - just wasn't what I was expecting. So a couple weeks ago I decided to ditch the peach and go for something less frilly.
I knew I wanted another mural for the wall behind our bed, so I decided to do something abstract using navy blue, black, white & gray. I had leftover paint from the hallway makeover (Behr in Flint Smoke - ask for white to be added to make it a couple shades lighter) - so I decided to use that for the three walls that wouldn't have the mural. Because I'm impatient and can't help painting something as soon as I get an idea, this is how our bedroom looked for a good three weeks before we bought the paint I needed to finish it:
Then this past weekend I attacked the wall. I did a lot of finger painting - which, on a surface this huge, is SO MUCH FUN! and I did some dry brushing. I used a bunch of different colors for this wall, mainly Behr's "Swan Wing" and navy blue.
Before the makeover was complete, I painted these beautiful sconces that I found at Goodwill:
After painting them with the same navy blue from the mural I hung them up & painted the nail heads blue too so they would blend in well:
I painted the sconces on the same paper they had been wrapped in when I brought them home, and I really liked the outlines that were left behind after I was done painting. I decided to turn the paper into a new abstract drawing to be displayed in our bedroom, to mimic the sconces hanging on the opposite wall:
I framed it without glass and the crumpled texture looks really cool in person! There's more to this drawing that I'll get into another time :)
And now for the full reveal!
I'm so happy with the way this turned out. It was relatively inexpensive to paint & the decor was less than $30 total, shopping at Goodwill makes things easy :) I'd love to hear what you think!
