Sometimes my place of business can look a bit... cluttered.
I get big ideas and sometimes my studio just isn't big enough to hold them. And yes, in that middle photo - I'm balancing my mac on a lampshade. But don't worry, I kept it sturdy with a mirror frame and a hamper, totally safe.
So I mentioned in Tuesday's blog how inspired I was to make my studio a place that I would be proud to show off. Little by little I've worked to make a clean work station that will increase productivity and my patience level! And today, I am very excited to show:
It's clean! Yippee!
Part of my problem was I didn't have anywhere to put my stuff! If you've seen any of my art you know that I'm pretty aggressive with my materials (throwing and dripping paint, etc) plus I use a lot of different things - chalk pastel, ink, graphite, paper, paint - in my work. Between the materials I use for painting, my messy process, shipping materials, millions of receipts, and storing the paintings that haven't sold yet, it's tough to keep everything organized! So I built two storage cabinets. They aren't anything fancy, I got them from Target and they're just what I needed!
Also, you may remember me saying that I paint everything - I painted this too. It was laminate which they usually discourage painting, but I just sanded it a bit and primed it - added a couple coats of Valspar's "Hazy Stratus" grey and there you have it! It now holds all the less attractive books from the other bookcase, along with lots of fun business paperwork.
Next mission is to attack my studio closet....
