Let me start by saying, I watch more than the average and/or recommended amount of tv shows and movies. If it's on Netflix, I've probably seen it, twice. In some cases three times (yep, Friends, I'm looking at you). I used to listen to music constantly while I painted and it served as great inspiration. But over the last couple of months, my anxiety decided to vomit all over my brain and I found that music alone didn't serve as a powerful enough distraction from my ruminating - hence, the need for Netflix. I find that the dialogue and the songs in the background are the perfect soundtrack to art making and since the addition of a teeny tiny television in my studio - I'm spending a lot more time creating art than I used to. The jury is still out on whether or not that's a good thing. For now, I choose to think it's just fine!
This show will throw you onto the most emotional rollarcoaster of your Netflix-binging life. I'm actually not sure if I should recommend this, because I cried while watching it so much that it actually made creating art pretty difficult at times. That last season especially... sweet Jesus was it emotional. The acting is never overdone, and the music is flawless - if you're a fan of slow acoustic goosebump worthy songs, you will be pleased each season. I'm especially obsessed with the second season's soundtrack - my favorite song from it is below:
2) Freaks and Geeks
I actually just finished watching this series for the first time (all the way through) yesterday! It's funny, embarrassing and a pretty accurate depiction of what high school was like, even though it takes place two decades prior to my experience. I stand with the bazillion others who are annoyed and sad that this series ended after one season. If you like Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead and especially The Who, this series is for you :)
3) How I Met Your Mother
I think everyone in the world has seen this show. And while the ending displeased me a bit - I still get goosebumps thinking about the last episode + this song:
This is just a taste of some of my favorites - if you like this post I'd be happy to share more, along with the best movie soundtracks (I watched Pride and Prejudice at least three times while making THIS painting)! Thanks for reading and have the best weekend ever!
