My Dad has been talking about the book, "Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook" for years, telling me how important it is to create content and become a source for my readers rather than trying to sell them a painting on every post.
I kept meaning to read the book. Then I'd see the Harry Potter series sitting on my shelf and think...well, I'd think about how much I'd rather read Harry Potter than a business book. So instead I took the SparkNotes version from my Dad and implemented the advice into my blog.
Fast forward to about a week ago, I'm catching up on some InstaStories when I see a post from the Rising Tide Society founder asking it's members to reach out to some business guy named Gary to ask him to speak at some conference or other coming up.
I went to this "Gary" 's Instagram, watched a couple stories and decided to start following him.
Fast forward to last night. I've just convinced my loner pup, Luna Bear, to hang out with me in the family room while I'm laying on the couch. I start checking out the latest InstaStories when I come across Gary's. He gives a short and loud business tip. Then the story says to swipe up to watch the full video. I swipe up. I start listening to this marketing guru with a $50million networth, talking about how he responds to EVERY message he receives on social media. How he reads comments and clicks on the person's profile, scrolling through to see if they're actually engaging with their audience and to see if they're doing too much jabbing and not enough hooking, or vise versa. He talks about how NO ONE else at his level in the business world does what he does.
Then I think...wait a minute...did he just say "jab"?
I spent the next... forever amount of time eating up his videos, checking out his Instagram more closely, brainstorming how to apply the insane amount of advice he just throws out for free into my blog right away, while simultaneously texting my Dad to tell him I'm finally up to date on who he's been telling me about since roughly 2013.
Moral of the story: Sometimes, Dads really know what they're talking about.
Now watch this guy & TRY not to feel ready to take over the world with your business.
