Last week our friend Riley asked if I would refinish his white nightstand. There is rarely, if ever a time that I pass up painting something so I got started right away!
I sanded it down and primed it with a mix of brown and golden brown craft smart paint.
After priming it I used Rustoleum's "American walnut" stain and the first coat didn't quite look the way I wanted it to so I did a second coat, using a cheesecloth after each coat to better work the stain into the surface.
The second coat was closer to the shade of Riley's dresser so I was happier with the way it looked but it still wasn't perfect- it was starting to look orangey so I mixed in a little of Rustoleum's "weathered grey" and that toned it down a little.
I got new hardware and a little trim to give it character and I'm really happy with how it's turning out! I still think the color is a little more orangey than brown so I'll give it another day to dry before mixing in another shade. Last step is adding a coat or two of polyacrylic and it's done!
