Look! My clean studio!
I'm super excited because for the first time since I made this blog, I have uncommissioned-made-it-because-I-wanted-to NEW ART to post!
....and before you scroll down to see what it is...
Please read what it's about:
So in 2011, I was getting a little better at lithography. I had taken a couple classes studying it, and was feeling like I could take some chances. So I got stone, inked it up just the way I wanted to, and rolled out some cool prints. I started experimenting on different types of paper and lace, and my prints became harder to see in a way I actually preferred.
Now as to what these lithographs were representing, you need to know what I was researching, and I was researching Klimt. One of my all time favorite artists, the gold leafed Gustav, the "Painter of Women". My favorite painting by Klimt, at that time, was "Judith and the Head of Holofernes". While the story behind it is pretty alarming, I loved the painting in a way I couldn't explain. I decided I wanted to make my own version, combine it with the word-art I had been making and I came up with this lady:
I made a series out of her that I called "Organize Your Mind" since the fuzziness surrounding her are the words of stress going through my mind at the time that I outlined in ink. We'll talk more about her belly in another post.
So now for the new stuff:
Now this is a tough one to check out online. It's a delicate piece but it has a whole bunch of subtle texture and detail that gets a little lost in the transition to web, but I hope you can get the general gist.
So I decided those 2011 lithographs didn't deserve to just lay around any more. I started messing around with collaging them and combining them with one of my new paintings, and I made this new piece. Can you find Judith in there?
Now the new piece is just chilling up on the wall between two other Judith lithographs in our family room over a very cute chair my sister got us!
And last but not least... here's a sketch for a new idea for a painting I'm in the process of creating. GET EXCITED because I am!
