In December of 2012 I graduated with a BFA from VCUart school after majoring in Painting and Printmaking. It only took me...well about 3 years to frame my diploma! I just picked it up this past Friday and I'm so happy with how it turned out. I had it framed by my all-time favorite framer - Rick, in my all-time favorite frame shop - Rick's Custom Frame + Gallery AKA RCFG.
I love this place for so many reasons, from it being the location of my first solo art show back in 2011, to how it lead to my first internship working with the funniest lady you will ever meet, Phyllis DeMaurizi. That internship turned into my first real job and with it came some of the most hilarious and happiest memories of my time in college. For the year and 1/2 that I worked there, I learned so much from Phyllis and Rick, almost all of which I have implemented into my business.
Some of my best memories from working there are shopping for the most delicious opening night treats at Cosco with Phyllis, visiting artists' studios and being equal parts excited and terrified to give the gallery talk/introductions before each show to all the wonderful people who came to our opening nights. It was where I learned how to design paper advertisements along with email blasts, and where I was trusted enough to organize entire exhibitions from choosing the artists to handling the sales. I will always treasure the time that I spent working for the most hilarious, sweet-toothed, and kindest couple I've ever met, and will always be grateful for everything I learned there. While I am proud of my diploma from VCU, it was the hands-on experience that I gained working in the gallery that gave me the confidence I needed to dive headfirst into my own business.
Now back to the frame part of Rick's Custom Frame + Gallery :)
Rick's has a HUGE selection! I'm a fan of the whole rustic thang so I was happy to see there was a nice variety of rustic style frames. I knew I wanted it to tie together with my office and with the diploma, so Rick suggested the antique gold frame to lay underneath the rich grey-brown rustic frame, to bring it all together. I'm so happy I listened because it looks awesome!!
The gold in there really makes it pop!
So here it is hanging above my new IKEA shelf. I love love love it!!
If you're ever looking to have anything framed, I highly HIGHLY recommend Rick's Custom Frame + Gallery!
