Last week I finally came up with a name for the new series of paintings that I'll be showing at Circle Square Salon in 2015. Then I got started on making postcards to advertise the show:
I decided on Fire + Ice because I wanted a name that would express the anxiousness I frequently feel. For those of you who have anxiety you probably know what I'm talking about - that constant feeling that you've done something wrong, or just - not perfectly. It's a feverish feeling that I get, sort of claustrophobic - like the room is getting smaller and warmer. Then when I convince myself the anxiety is unnecessary, that I'm really trying my best and that's all I can ask of myself - I get a relief in the form of what feels like a chilly breeze which leaves me exhausted. The Fire is the initial panic, the Ice is the cool relief.

So you may be asking - how does this relate to your art? Well, my art is a combination of my irrational feelings and expressive actions. When I'm anxious I find that doing very intricate drawings helps to distract me. When I'm feeling angry or lonely or anything really, I can throw paint at a canvas or finger paint and start to feel normal again. The art that I'll be showing starting January 15th is a combination of paintings and prints that I've made as a way of self medicating. I'm really proud of this work!
I hope you'll join me the night of January 15th anytime between 4-7pm at Circle Square Salon located at 305 Robinson St. in RVA to check out my new work, eat yummy snacks and enjoy 25% off the Salon's products! Pretty hair + Free Food + New Art = a happy Thursday evening!
