Curious what The Rising Tide Society is all about? It's a group that started about one year ago when two photographers, Natalie & Krista, realized that entrepreneurship was pretty lonely. They decided to express their frustration on Instagram with the hashtag #communityovercompetition , challenging others to share about someone in their industry who inspires them. Ten THOUSAND hashtags later, they knew they were on to something and they formed TuesdaysTogether, a meetup for creative entrepreneurs to gather each month in the spirit of Community over Competition. TuesdaysTogether groups now exist all over the country, as well as Europe, Canada and more! It's incredible how much it's expanded in just one year!!

Let me share with you a little about my experience :) ! In September of 2015 I went to my first "meet up" group, "TuesdaysTogether RVA". I was incredibly nervous. I had never gone to any kind of networking event before, but I was in a bit of a business rut. I was realizing working alone in my studio all day wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Truth is, I was lonely, and I needed to be around people or I was going to lose it! When I heard there was this group that met the second Tuesday of each month and discussed business ideas and what it's really like to be a creative entrepreneur, I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a try.
I absolutely LOVED it. I was actually surprised by how much I loved it. I started going to every meeting I could. Each month's meeting had a different theme and I learned from local industry experts about many different topics - from contracts with customers to finding work/life balance. I made friends with people who get it. Who get the time that goes into a painting or a blog post, and genuinely get excited about the little victories like when you reach 100 likes on an Instagram post, while empathizing when you have a tough client who makes you want to weep.
Joining my local TuesdaysTogether group was one of the best decisions I've ever made for my business, and I've loved become more involved. When the leader, the amazing photographer Annamarie Akins, announced that they were planning a way to get the Richmond art community more involved by putting on a pop up art show - I told her I definitely wanted to be a part of it! She asked if I would want to be in charge, and I very. very. VERY hesitantly said yes.
I AM SO GLAD I DID. Because guys, this event is going to be incredible. What started as a pop up shop has grown into a full on art FESTIVAL, I can not wait for you all to see the work that some of RVA's most talented creatives have put together.
