If you had told me this time last year that I would soon be sponsored by the #1 acrylic paint manufacturer (DecoArt wattup!!), selling my furniture in a shop in Carytown, interviewing amazing artists and entrepreneurs every month AND see my art published in Richmond Magazine and The Washington Post... I would have thought you were very nice, but very insane. This year has been mind blowing for my business and I can't thank you all enough for your support. Whether you've commissioned me for a custom painting or simply kept up with this blog which has become such an integral part of business, I appreciate you so much!
Since it is so close to the end of this crazy year, I thought it would be fun to share the top 5 paintings I am most proud of from 2015. I'd also love to hear about YOUR biggest accomplishments of the year! Please share in the comment section below! :)
1.) From The Outside of Everything
This painting wins my Most Proud Of award hands down, and not so much because of the painting itself - but because of what it represents. When I shared this painting, I shared the truth about the darkness in myself that I had previously kept quiet; the driving force in my art that I had only ever hinted at in the past. I let it all out and so many of you showered with me with kindness and understanding and I fell in love with creating all over again. Thank you for that. (Read more here.)
2.) The Bedroom Mural
Painting this room was a beast! It had previously been an almost fluorescent peach. Now it's soothing blues and grays with simple décor with a bright white comforter. I'm in love with how this room turned out, and in love with my sweet Ben for putting up with my restless need to paint everything all the time. (See more here.)
3.) My First Fantasy Commission
When I was asked to create a painting of a mermaid I was beyond thrilled. It was at the start of 2015 and I remember it was right after I had realized the direction I wanted my art to take: Fantasy > Reality. I loved making this painting, and it sparked the series below it, which I'm quite proud of. (Read more here).
4.) Painting my Dreams
While this painting isn't finished, it's one of the ones I am most excited about since it's inspired by a dream, scares me a little, and should hopefully give you a pretty good idea of the direction my art will continue to take in the new year. (Read more here.)
5.) Collaging Paintings with Photoshop
Something I've been really into lately is collaging multiple paintings using Photoshop to create something completely new. What was originally a pink figurative painting and a blue abstract, turned into this:
