Dear J.K. Rowling,
"Thankful" and "Appreciate" are the words that come to mind when I think of you and the wonderful world of Harry Potter that you created with your imagination. But reading that, just typing that out is so lame. Those words don't cover the amount of comfort your characters have brought to me over the years as I read and reread each book. They don't cover the fact that I struggle with depression and anxiety and your books make me not feel those things. 90% of the time they snap me out of my darkest moments. I'm 26 years old and when I talk to my mom on the phone and she can tell I'm not in a good place, she always suggests I "go put on a Harry Potter and take a deep breath". Thankful just doesn't cover it.
I'm a painter, and so words have never come as naturally to me as spreading paint. So instead, I did two things:
1) I painted a mural of Harry's home, in my home. (video of this is at the bottom!)
2) I asked the big bad beautiful world of social media to tell me what Harry Potter means to them. Here's how I asked:
The response was incredible. You and your characters are so loved! Your books have brought light into the dark corners of so many hearts, inspired tatoos, the names of many pets along with themed nurseries and bridal showers!
For you to overcome so much to share your gift with the world, it just blows my mind. Thank you from the bottom of my (and so many others') heart.
