Happy First Fridays everybody! So many great shows opening tonight but there's one in particular that I'm really interested in checking out and that's....
Every year Reynolds Gallery puts on a show called "Almost Famous" displaying work by emerging artists. This year the show was curated by Owen Duffy*, a Ph.D. candidate studying contemporary art history at VCU. You'll see work by four different artists from New York and Richmond. Here's a little preview of a piece by each artist:
Untitled by Matthew Warren
"Double Shadow" by Esther Ruiz
"Dogpile (with egg" by Levester Williams
The work I'm most excited about seeing are the paintings by Adam Sultan. He uses oil paint on canvas and according to the "Almost Famous" press release he works on multiple paintings at a time, "alowing each canvas to resolve itself organically". The piece above is called "Kitchen Plasma" and the piece below is Untitled. I love how vibrant and spastic his brush strokes are!
*Duffy is also the founder of ARTSKIP.com, which is a free digital platform that helps you find contemporary art based on where you are and what mediums you like. It's seriously cool and if you haven't checked it out yet - you need to!!
All photos of artwork were taken from the Reynold's Gallery website. View more by clicking here.
