Going with yesterday's theme of celebrating my 1 Year Anniversary of full-timing it Mandy Fitzgerald Artwork style, I thought it'd be fun to see a year in photos - how my work, my studio, and my life has changed over the last 12 months:
This was the month I turned in my application for the VMFA Fellowship with the art from the Underwater Sunshine series. I am still very proud of these paintings. They were part of what got my work into a show at C'est le Vin | Wine Bar and Art Gallery in Shockoe Bottom (scroll down to May to see more)
Similar style to Underwater Sunshine but moving towards a softer color palette.
My first RAW artists show at the Hippodrome Theater ("Pixels") + the messy studio in our old townhouse.
In February I was in the thick of all my physical therapy, where paintings like THESE were being thought of but not created as a result of not being able to move off the couch for extended periods of time. This small painting is only 4x4" and is one of the many small scale pieces I worked on during this frustrating month.
The obsessive wedding planning began. Here's a photo of the cake topper I made for Ben and my wedding cake and Ben cut the wood heart to make it stand up. Two photos on the right are by Kristin Partin Photography that show the cake topper in all it's glory on the day of our wedding. That cake was a wedding present to us from Ben's Grandma Lois, can you BELIEVE how huge it is??!? It's hugeness and deliciousness were created equal.
When I decided every lady at the wedding should get a painting...

My second show with RAW Artists at the Hippodrome Theater, this show was called "Revolution" and it was a ton of fun! On the right is a photo from my second ever solo show, "Physical Evidence" that I had at C'est le Vin, a wine bar and art gallery in Shockoe Bottom! A very busy month!
Ben and I moved out of the ghetto and into the beautiful apartment we live in now! The second photo is from the insights on my site, showing the insane amount of people who looked at my website after just one tweet about my painting, The Niffin, from the famous author, Lev Grossman, whom my painting was inspired by. Read more here: A Surprising Email.
The RVA landscape painting that I had started on in April was finally completed in July and hung in the Taradel, LLC office in Glen Allen, VA!
A month that art took the back burner as my sister gave birth to her second amazingly adorable baby boy, Taylor; Ben and I got married and went on a perfect honeymoon to Maine; and my picture-framing, bracelet-making, gummy-bear-loving Papa passed away. A lot of very personal art has been inspired by these life changing events that I'll be sharing in the coming months. We miss you, Papa.
When I was asked to listen to a beautiful symphony, my second intentionally music inspired commission began. You can learn all about the symphony of Scheherazade and her unique story and relationship to my painting when you go here. If you are interested in purchasing this painting, you can do so here.
This was the month of intense re-organization and branding. Here's how my studio looks now, a big change from January!
Here are the paintings I have applied to the VMFA Fellowship with. Here's to hoping they like this years better than last!
Last thing, I hope you'll consider commissioning me this month, or purchasing anything from my store (where you will get 10% off THIS WEEK ONLY! using coupon code HAPPYONEYEAR at checkout!) - knowing that an additional 10% will go straight towards the Alzheimer's Foundation!
Thank you for an AMAZING year. I wouldn't have been able to do this without you!
