About two months ago, I got a phone call from a number I didn't recognize. It was a lady named Joan, who wanted a custom drawing created in time for Christmas. She explained that she had received a drawing of mine a while back as a gift from her sister, Cindy. Turns out her sister is one of the real estate agents that I've worked with multiple times over the years creating custom house drawings for new homeowners. It was so flattering that Joan liked her drawing so much that she wanted to have the same type of drawing created for a friend of hers.
Her friend had grown up in this house and it had changed quite a bit since the most recent photo was taken. She wanted the drawing of the house to look just as it had when her friend had lived there, so she sent me a bunch of family photos that were staged in front of the home that were really fun to look through! It became like a puzzle as I removed the back deck railing, added in shrubbery and pieced together a final version of how the home used to look. I used this Photoshopped version as the inspiration for the final drawing:
I've drawn many homes in the past, but this one was extra special because I got to see it's history through so many photos! It gave the finished piece much more meaning for me, and I hope it had the same affect on the friend who received it.
Joan, you're such a nice friend to commission this gift! It was a pleasure working with you :)
