Let me start off by saying that I am blessed to have a fiancée who is fantastic at making friends. Seriously. His friends are some of the sweetest guys I have ever met. Luckily Ben shares them with me. They are kind, fun to be around, and also very creative.
Which leads me to our friend Riley Little. Riley loves music. He and Ben were in a band together in college and I loved watching them perform. They are both very talented guitarists, singers and songwriters.
Riley also appreciates art. Recently he told me that he had a painting idea, one that tied music and art together, that he would like me to create for him.
He told me how inspired he is by listening to others' music, especially music by the talented singer/songwriter, Andrew McMahon ^^^(of Something Corporate and Jack's Mannequin). He told me he'd like to see what a painting would look like if I were to listen purely to Andrew McMahon's music, allowing his music inspire my creative process. Such a fun idea! It's one of the best commissions I've received because I still have sooo much artistic freedom PLUS I really like McMahon's music, which is an added bonus. So he created a playlist of something like 80 solo Andrew McMahon songs + some old Something Corporate + Jack's Mannequin songs, many of which I've never heard before, that I can jam out to while I'm painting.
I have the greatest job in the world.
So we decided this would work best as a series, specifically of three parts consisting of 36x36" canvases.
I've still got plenty of work to do, but here's a little of what I've got going on so far. I'll be posting more progress shots/the finished product within the next week.
